The last 3-4 weeks of striper fishing has been incredible especially right in my backyard. The bass fishing in and around Plymouth has been the best I have seen in years.

The best way to get in on this action right now is to get some live bait and drift them in the harbor. On our last 4 trips, we have had out limit of bass within the first hour of fishing and most days, catch and release of 30-50 fish each time we are out. We caught our first short of the season in the mix of all those fish, what does that tell you???? Yes, it has been that good. If you want to get in on the action, give me a call at 774-437-1882.

Getting In On The Action The Catch

The striper beat goes on!!! All we can say is that the striper action continues to be EPIC!! For those of you following us on Facebook, you have been able to see some of our regular updates and photos from all of our trips during the month of July. We ened July with 8 days straight of striper trips and what a blast they were. We were on the water for 22 of the 31 days with great weather for each of our trips, limits of bass and many trips limiting out within the first hour of fishing. This kind of action made for great catch and release fishing all day long.

Most of our trips found fish well over 20 and 30lbs with a few trips putting fish over the rails that were up to 46lbs. July has been just an amazing month of fishing for us. The fishing has been on fire, we have had great customers to share this experience with and lots of great laughs along the way. Here are a few pictures from our trips below and we will update the photo gallery this week with all of our new photos. Reports of solid tuna action are starting to come in so within the next few weeks we will be trying to get in on the tuna hunt in between our striper trips. The EPIC striper bite is in full swing and should continue for a few more weeks. Get in on all of this action by contact Capt. Roland Lizotte or Denise Lizotte at 774-437-1882 for booking details.

June/July Fishing Update-Striper Fishing Continues To Be On Fire http://reel-timefishingcharters.com/fishingreports/2011/07/15/junejuly-fishing-update-striper-fishing-continues-to-be-on-fire/ http://reel-timefishingcharters.com/fishingreports/2011/07/15/junejuly-fishing-update-striper-fishing-continues-to-be-on-fire/#comments Fri, 15 Jul 2011 18:10:12 +0000 Administrator http://reel-timefishingcharters.com/fishingreports/?p=206 Continue reading ]]> Well first off, I have to apologize for the lack of recent posts. For the rest of July and August, we will do our best to keep the posts updated. I have a ton of pictures to add from all of our June and July trips, along with some cool videos of more top water bass action. There is just one word I can use to sum up fishing during the month of June and into July, AWESOME. The bass fishing remains rock solid with limits of fish on each trip. Early mornings before 7am has produced some great top water action for bass, then mid morning through the afternoon, all the bass have been deep with wire line. On most trips through June and July we have had bass over 30lbs in the boat which is just awesome!!! We have eels in our traps now so during the rest of July and August, we will start live bait fishing if needed. Bass fishing is where it is at for us right now. We started June with the Cape Cod 5000 tournament and for a 3rd year tournament, what a great one it is. They guys down at Oyster Harbor put on a great torunament, from the Captains Dinner, Tournament Weigh In and After Party!!! The Jersey Girl and I had a blast fishing the weekend tournament together. It was a two fish slot tournament with the heaviest combined wieght of the two fish taking top prize over two days of fishing. The slot limit was 28″-36″. Talk about a tough one to win. Finding the heaviest, fatest fish, closet to 36″. Well, we had a top 10 finish out of about 100 plus anglers. Not too bad. We would have had the winning fish on day two but our top fish was about 1/16th of an inch too long. Yup, 1/16th of an inch seperated us from 1st to 8th. In the end, we had a blast. Denise and I have not fished like that together in a while.

On the tuna front, well, thats another story. There are some big fish running around (like over 400lbs) but nothing yet in real rock solid numbers to target on top water. Live bait fishing is where it is at for us right now if you are interested in a tuna trip. I heard a report this week of some smaller fishing running around but they have been up and down, very hard to stay on top of them. Hopefully, they will move in during July.

Cod fishing is still happening a bit further north from where we were fishing earlier this spring and shark fishing is happening right now. Book a combo trip with for some AM cod fishing and then afternoon shark fishing. This is a great way to spend the day on the water, filling a cooler full of fresh cod and then fighting some big toothy 300lb plus gamefish all afternoon. It is an arm burning way to spend your day!!!

Well, more to come with pictures and some posts from our upcomming trips and previous trips. We will be on the water Saturday/Sunday this weekend and Tuesday-Thursday next week. Contact Captain Roland Lizotte for booking details at 774-437-1882. and ask about our mid summer savings!!

Striper Action On Fire – Fish Over 30lbs – 6/11 http://reel-timefishingcharters.com/fishingreports/2011/06/12/striper-action-on-fire-fish-over-30lbs-611/ http://reel-timefishingcharters.com/fishingreports/2011/06/12/striper-action-on-fire-fish-over-30lbs-611/#comments Sun, 12 Jun 2011 14:54:05 +0000 Administrator http://reel-timefishingcharters.com/fishingreports/?p=153 Continue reading ]]> So where should I start. Well, I guess I can tell you that today’s trip has been in the making for 3 years and it finally happened. Thomas and his crew have been trying to book this trip for the last 3 years. With the last 2 years, we had to cancel due to strong winds or very heavy thunderstorms. This year, well, the weather was looking good as of Friday night but when I woke up Saturday morning, what a different story.

Thomas, Jing, Hershal, Steve and Etien all arrived at Brewers Plymouth Marine around 6am today. We were targeting striped bass for the day and over the last 3 trips, the bass fishing was EPIC. Hopefully today would prove to be more of the same. We made our way out of Plymouth Harbor and started across Cape Cod Bay. This is when we knew the weather guys got the forecast wrong. It was cloudy, the winds were starting to blow pretty good from the east and there was light rain spattered all over the sirius weather chart. The rain looked like it was staying NE of us so hopefully we could get a few hours of dry fishing in. My buddy Patrick was already across the bay around the Race Point area starting to look for fish. He had warned me it was a “bumpy” ride across. We managed to run at 30-40mph most of the way through the 2ft chop. As we hit the Race Point area, there were lots of boats working fish under the swarms of birds. I rigged up the light tackle spinning outfits for the crew and we started our search. It was not long before we marked our first pile of fish under the boat. I had the guys drop down some 3oz buttefly jigs hoping we could pull up some larger fish that were roaming under the smaller top water fish. That is exactly what happened. It was only a matter of minutes before Steve, Jing, Etien and Hershal hooked up. Our first bass were in the box. Unfortunately, Thomas had missed the first bite and he was still lokking for that first fish!

Next drift, bamm, tight lines again and Jing was on, then Steve, Etienand Thomas. I gave Patrick a call and he came over to get in on the action. While we were fishing, he managed to get some great video and pictures of our trip in action. I will have those posted later this week. We started our next drift, tight lines again all around the boat. At one point, I think we had all 5 rods tight with fish and the crew was running circles around the boat. That’s the one nice thing about a center console, I can step out of the way and we have 360 degree’s of fishabilityfor everyone. Drift after drift, we picked away at the fish. We had 9 fish in the box after about an hour of fishing, with many fish released. Hershal dropped his line down when he hooked into a nice fish. I mean, this fish just screamed away from the boat and the drag on the Penn Battle 5000 had that nice “hummm” that everyone loves to hear. After about 1 5minute battle with the fish, Hershallhad it up to the boat. We took some photos and it was a nice, lean 32lb bass in the box.  At this point, it was all catch and release with the crew hoping they could manage to land a couple of 30-40lb plus trophy fish.

After a quick party break, yes, party break since it was Jing’s 25thbirthday, we started to get back on the fish. This is when Thomas managed to get onto a nice fish. Thomas fought the fish as it made many runs from the boat and when we pulled it up, it was another fish pushing the 30lb mark. All and all, it was another great day of fishing aboard the Jersey Girl. Tight lines all morning withnon stop action, a little birthday celebration in the middle and a great crew aboard for the day. The rain managed to hold off until close to the end of our trip and witha following sea, we had a pretty smooth ride home. It was perfect timing because by the time we made our way back to Plymouth, the east winds were ripping along with the tide.

Whether it has been the bottom fishing for cod, the first tuna hook up of the season or the Epic bass fishing, the 2011 season is off to a great start when the weather has cooperated. Get in on this great action and contact Capt. Roland Lizotte for booking details at 774-437-1882.

All I can say is that today’s “Birthday Trip” for James will be one for him to remember. Today’s trip started back in February with a phone call from Jame’s wife asking if we could provide a gift certificate for a 40th birthday party trip. So the Jersey Girl pulled together a little package with the gift certificate, some brochures and a nice Reel Time Fishing Charters t-shirt and sent it off in the mail. Two months later, James called to cash in on his gift and I am pretty sure he got more than he bargained for.

Today we left Brewers Plymouth Marine around 530am. We were supposed to run the trip on 6/4 but mother nature did not cooperate with the winds so we had an opportunity to run the trip on 6/5. With the seas still pretty sloppy from the previous days winds, we made our way across Cape Cod Bay towards Race Point. When we arrived, I started to get the guys set up with the spinning outfits when my phone rang. Our buddy Joe gave me a call to let me know he was on the “mother load” of fish. He was not too far away so we made a quick run to the spot where he was at. (THANKS JOE, good freinds and partners on the water goes a long way sometimes!!!).

It was not long before I could see the birds dive bombing the water off in the distance and the surface of the water erupting with fish. I call them “mosquitoes” because from a distance, that what they look like, a swarm of mosquitoes. I mean, this school of fish had to be a mile long. I figured out which way the school was moving, we moved up in front and started our drift. It took a matter of minutes before all the guys hooked up. We had a fire drill on the Jersey Girl all morning where we had all the guys hooked up and we were running around the boat keeping our fish apart. I seriously do not think I worked harder in my life un-hooking fish and tying new leaders on than I did today. First was Juan, then Ned, then Tom, Paul and James, all the guys were on fish, big fish!!! Everyone was pulling fish up left and right, you could not miss, it was EPIC. My favorite word to use to describe fishing like it was today. Sean from my last years charter knows what that means, right Sean???

We had 5 hours of non-stop, forearm burning, drag screaming fishing!!! Every fish caught today was over 20lbs, we did not have one short fish and we had a couple of fish over the 40lb mark with lots of fish in the 30lb class. We caught well over 100 fish and it was catch and release all day!!! These guys had a blast and quite honestly, so did I. I had more fun watching these guys hook up or watching the bass come up and smash the lures off the top of the water. At one point, the fish were so think on the surface, the bait they were chasing came right up under the boat and we were watching the bass pick them off within 3ft of the boat. It was kind of like watching goldfish feed in a tank and our tank was the ocean.

In the end, James had the biggest fish for the day pusing the limit at 42lbs.. I think Ned had the best catch of the day when he decided to try and fish with his own “lure” (check out the photo below, it will make you laugh) and the quote of the day came from Juan. He said, “I have never seen anything like this in my entire life, this was by far the best fishing trip I have ever been on…” That is what it is all about, good times, great fishing and a trip that burns memories that will last forever. We all agreed that James wife did the best job picking out this birthday gift!!! I will be posting some more pictures in the gallery along with some video from this trip. Stay tuned!!! We had it all, fog, strong winds to start the day with a nasty 3-5’ sea on the bank, limits of cod, a few bass and our first GIANT TUNA HOOK UP OF THE SEASON. Yup, I just said it and YES, the tuna are in. During the middle of our cod trip today, we marked some interesting fish that looked a lot like the fish (bluefin tuna) we ended our season with last year. Tuna it was, more to come on that, read on!!!

So our day started by leaving Brewers Plymouth Marine at 5am with Dan, Dorothy, Dante and DJ. We had a full day planned today with a half day cod trip and half day bass trip. As we made our way out of Plymouth, the birds were working the surface with a small group of boats fishing for bass just beyond Bug Light. The waters were calm leaving the harbor and we had good visibility today until we hit the bank. When we hit the SW corner of the bank, the winds were still blowing pretty good, we were greeted with a solid 3-5’ slop and dense fog again. We slowed down and made it along the bank to the spots where we have been fishing. It was a tough start to the day with the winds, seas and tide running hard. I felt bad for the Dante and his crew but they were all troopers. I told them in about 90 minutes, the tide would slow down, the seas would subside and we would lose the wind. They stuck with it and managed to put a few fish in the box to start the day. With the drift so fast, we picked a few fish here and there, and were stuck with heavy weights for the time being. As the seas subsided, we made a move to our next spot and that was it. It was lock and load for the next 2-3 hours of fishing. Cod after cod, they kept coming over the rails. 2-3 at a time, keeper cod, and nice market sized cod with a few steaker’s in the mix. DJ had the trophy for the day with a nice fat cod full of sand eels. Dorothy held her own and worked the rod and reel like a machine. She could not get her jig to the bottom without hooking up, check out this video of Dorothy pulling in 3 fish at a time. Dante and his family put on a “How To Catch Cod” fishing clinic today. It was a blast and I have to admit, I was exhausted watching them pull these fish up. They kept me running around the boat all day today, and it’s a good thing we run a center console. I was running circles around the boat all morning. Dan had the bow spot for the morning and held his own, although, I think the crew in the back of the boat out fished him 5 to 1. (sorry Dan). I know Dan worked his arms off because when I came up to help with his jig, he just looked at me, smiled and said “this is the best fishing I have had.” Priceless.

We were pretty close to our limit when I decided to move us back for one more drift. On the ride back to the start of our drift, we got into talking about tuna fishing and how this is the time of the year when they show up. As we hit our spot again, we stopped and started jigging for cod. I was watching the Lowrance HDS8 sonar when it light up with big marks, tuna marks!! I had Dante take a look and I said, “This is what tuna look like.” I grabbed my new tuna stand up spinning outfit (that I just happened to take today, just in case), changed the jig and dropped down 80ft. Remember my previous statement above about the tuna hook up, well you guessed, WE WERE ON!!! The line screamed off the reel, the hook was set and I turned the rod over to Dante. Little did he know about the battle he was getting into at this point. Pumped and full of excitement, Dante was fighting his first giant tuna. His attitude towards this fish would soon change.

As we approached the 1 hour mark, I told Dante that if we did not get this fish up within an hour or so, we would run the risk of losing it. He struggled to work the rod and reel to get line back on the fish. At this point, his arms were shaking as he slowly pumped the rod and cranked in an inch or two of line. The fish was straight down in 180ft of water. At an hour and fifteen, Dante turned the Rod over to DJ. Both Dante and DJ got a chance to feel the power of this fish. After a quick breather, Dante was back on the rod for another hour. Now two hours into the fight and DJ stepped back in. Another quick rest and Dante was back on the rod. This was it. We needed to try and get the fish up or risk having it die on the bottom. The fish was not taking line and was doing circles, we knew we were close to the end. At two hours and fifty five minutes, the fight was over. No, we did not get the fish. It was a heart breaker. The 100lb fluro-carbon leader broke, most likely due to chaffing, the size and amount of time we were on the fish. It was HEARTBREAKING and that’s tuna fishing. After we settled our nerves, we decided to end the day with some bass fishing. We used new gear today for our tuna battle. We used a Penn Battle 8000 Spinning Reel matched with an UglyStick TigerLite 200lb class rod, 65lb Power Pro, Yozuri HD Invisible Flurocarbon Leader (100lb) and a 10oz Stingo Jig.

With a quick ride over the Race Point, the guys managed to put a couple of bass in the boat to compliment the limits of cod and Pollock in the fish box. Around 5:15pm, we decided to head for home. What a day. Rough weather to start, Epic cod fishing, our first giant tuna hook up, bass and a beautiful ride home to end our day, what more could you ask for? Lets get out for a triple play, cod, tuna and bass all in the same day, contact Captain Roland Lizotte for booking details at 774-437-1882!!!

I can honestly say this was one of my favorite trips. Dante and his family were a blast to fish with. Another “first timer” trip aboard the Jersey Girl today. First tuna hook up of the season, first tuna hook up for Dante and DJ, first cod for Dante’s family and first Pollock for Dante himself. Lots of laughter today and we created some memories that will last for a lifetime.
